The key feature in any outdoor area is the foundation – that is a dry, level base to enjoy your entertaining area from. Decks are great for entertaining spaces, though they are difficult DIY projects adding cost, and requiring annual maintenance. A trend for entertaining areas is to pave the space which creates a durable, flat “base” for entertaining. Concrete pavers are (like Adbri’s 40mm range) are a great choice for entertaining as they can be laid onto a foundation of compacted road base and sand which is DIY friendly. Natural Stone pavers will also suit some backyard style though as they are very thin (19mm), they typically need to be glued onto a concrete slab which for many people, won’t be a DIY project.

Outdoor entertaining projects vary from small inner-city courtyards to small patios right through to larger alfresco entertaining areas that include outdoor kitchens and dining as well as fire pits, feature lighting and furniture. The best part about entertaining areas is they can be built in backyards of any size and clever ideas like using garden walls as seating areas can help maximise the available space.
